To Every Rule There is an Exception: A Rational Extension of Loewenstein's Rule

چکیده
Loewenstein's rule, which states that Al?O?Al motifs are energetically unstable, is fundamental to the understanding and design of zeolites. Here, using a combination electronic structure calculations lattice models, we show under circumstances this rule becomes invalid how it can be rationally extended chabasite framework for demonstration.

Semaphorin 3E, an exception to the rule.
Class 3 semaphorins (Sema3s) regulate axon guidance, angiogenesis, tumor growth, and tumor metastasis. Neuropilins (NRPs; NRP1 and NRP2) are the cell surface receptors for the Sema3s. However, to signal, interaction of Sema3s and NRPs with plexins is obligatory. In this issue of the JCI, Casazza and colleagues report data that challenge the conventional wisdom about the role of Sema3s in tumor ...
متن کاملEvolution: An exception that proves the rule
A careful comparative analysis suggests a simple explanation for a category of exceptions to the general correlation between separate sexes in plants -- dioecy -- and self-incompatibility. In some genera, polyploidy causes failure of self-incompatibility, and dioecy may then evolve.

متن کاملRule-plus-exception model of classification learning.
The authors propose a rule-plus-exception model (RULEX) of classification learning. According to RULEX, people learn to classify objects by forming simple logical rules and remembering occasional exceptions to those rules. Because the learning process in RULEX is stochastic, the model predicts that individual Ss will vary greatly in the particular rules that are formed and the exceptions that a...
